Monthly Giveaways.

Modified Momma Reviews is introducing a new page on this blog. It will be devoted to a monthly giveaway for parents who would like to try cloth diapering or for parents who just can't afford the start-up.

Nikki and I both know how hard it is to start cloth diapering, financially speaking. When I first started cloth diapering, I spent 300+ dollars on just diapers. Granted, my family has saved money in the long run, we weren't necessarily able to afford it all at that point in time.

Now, because Nikki and I both love cloth diapering so much, we would like to give back. Please understand that we can't help everyone who asks. I (Hurley) will be buying these gifts out of my own pocket (unless we can get sponsors later). I ask that if you already have a significant stash of fluff, please don't enter these contests. We are primarily hoping to help out those IN NEED.

Here's how it works:

Hurley's Experience:

Our Greenzy's book is the highlight of my daughter's bedtime routine. Because my daughter is only a year old, we summarize the pages as we read to her. The story is meant to teach young children about enviromental conservation in terms that they can understand.  For example, in the story, Orinda, the world's oldest living tree is in trouble and she calls on the help of eight animals to help her.
I really love the fact that for every purchase of this book, a tree in planted. I really wish every orgnization offered similar earth friendly actions follow the purchase of their products!

Along with the Greenzy's book, we received a plush toy. It was the character in the book known as "Violet", the giraffe. Greenzys plush toys are made from soy fibers and non-toxic dyes and are packaged with recycled paperboard! Talk about being green! Not only are they wonderfully made with natural and recycled materials but they go great with the book! My daughter even points to "Violet" in the book as we are reading. She has grown so attached to the giraffe that ever since she laid eyes on it, she has carried it with her everywhere. Its always near her, she even sleeps with it!

Hurley's Experience:

We received the Organic Baby Gift Pack that included four items, the foaming baby bodywash/shampoo, unscented baby lotion, unscented massage oil and gentle non citron outdoor spray [bug repellent].

The first item we used was the Foaming Baby Bodywash/Shampoo. Talk about easy to use! You just pump the foam in hand and message into the baby's hair. My daughter, A. liked it so much that she tried to help by rubbing the shampoo into the hair on the back of her head. I like that the shampoo is organic and its ingredients are easily read off the label. The foaming baby shampoo/bodywash is made out of:

The bottle is made from babysafe plastic which means it won't leach chemicals into the product [that would eventually be put on your baby's skin]

I've noticed after using this on my daughter for about 2weeks now, her hair and skin are noticeably softer. I'm sure the lotion helped though.

The unscented baby lotion is the next item I used with A.

She loves to hold the bottle while I message the lotion into her skin. The lotion is very easy to apply and it doesn't sit on top of the baby's skin for nearly as long as other products we have used. It's just another reason organic products excell. They pure and safe, straight from nature.

Later that week I used the Organic Baby Oil. This product took a little longer to rub in but was entirely worth it. I didn't have to reapply this for more than 2days! My daughter's skin was so soft!!

Here in Alaska, it's like an artic desert. It's very dry here so, inturn, we have to use a lot of lotions. After using the baby oil I didn't have to use any lotions for over a day. I like that it doesn't leave the baby's skin greasy. It's hard enough trying to wrangle a non-slippery toddler. haha

And last but certainly not least, the organic bug repellent. My husband actually uses this! In fact he took it out of state to train with the army in California. He said "It works great"... "certainly does it's job". {Just like a man to be so vague. haha}

I actually can't wait to get more use out of it this spring and summer. If you didn't know: the Alaska state bird is the mosquito!

TruKid All Natural Skincare For Kids Review and Giveaway!

  

TrueKid products are the creation of Jennifer Adams Bunkers, CEO of TruKid. Her goal and drive for creating these products was to provide children a natural and safe alternative to common skincare products and to teach healthy habits from the start in a fun and natural way! I'm going to leave a link here to a very informative page they have that is titled "Scary Facts" I think everyone should read this...(Go Now!!!)

I was graciously sent the collection pictured above! My Boys were thrilled to say the least. You would have thought it was Christmas the way the were checking out and reading each bottle to see what they were going to try first. My 6yr old was the first to notice TruKid's unique colors and symbols that help younger children know what the product they are using and where it goes. I really like their system. Check it out!!!

We took some pictures of our own to show you what the symbols look like on the bottles. Isn't that so Cute!

Now for the really good part! MY BOYS ASKED TO TAKE A BATH!!! So of course I agreed! I threw some swim trunks on them and documented the unheard of event! They were so excited to try all the new products. 

First they washed their hair, I really like the lather of the Silly Shampoo, just bubbly enough,  it rinses out well, and gets their hair very clean without drying it out. 

Then we tried out the Cool Conditioner, it rinsed out well and didn't leave a heavy residue at all, just hair that is silky and soft!
Both the shampoo and conditioner have lovely light sweet citrus scent. I love that they smells so fresh fruity and clean!





 Next up was the Bubbly Body Wash. I suggest using a loofah to get the full Bubbly effect. We used wash cloths the first time but I soon after went and got them their very own loofahs to enjoy.The Bubbly Body wash shares that same great scent!

After their bath they applied the Happy Face & Body Lotion all over. Both boys liked how soft their skin felt. My oldest son mentioned that his skin normally "feels tight and itchy after a bath, but not this time." They were smelling good and all nice and smooth :).

The next morning after we woke up the boy's eagerly asked to use their new Friendly Face Wash. I explained to them the importance of having clean hands before you wash so we went into the bathroom and washed our hands with TruKid Helping Hand Wash, then they washed their faces with Friendly Face Wash. They liked it
 a lot, now they just have to learn to not get it all in their hair when washing their face. We also used the Dancing hair Detangler that morning. Even though the boys have short hair it smoothed out their bed head nicely.

I love using TruKid products on my children. Knowing that just by using these awesome products I am keeping harmful toxins away from my kids gives me a great feeling.These products have been exactly what my kids needed to give them the motivation to practice their Healthy Habits more frequently, and by choice! We will be using our TruKid Sunny Days SPF products on our trip to Florida next month!!!

I was very excited when my Posh Pads arrived. I have a 5 month old breastfeeding daughter, and have spent a ton of money on disposable nursing pads in the past with my other children. In my efforts to "GO GREEN" I decided to do away with disposable Nursing Pads and opted for the reusable ones instead. That was one of the best decisions I have made in regards to my Nursing experience. I love how they feel and how they are much better for the environment. The Posh Pads come in some wonderful prints sure to please any woman. Posh Pads are made from a layer of soft organic flannel, layers of natural antibacterial bamboo and organic cotton fabric, and a top designer layer in a design.

My experience with Posh Pads has been a good one so far. They wash up nicely they haven't developed any kind of odor and they hold a decent amount of fluid. I have a very leaky left side and at times I leak through the pad but its becoming more rare. I believe their absorbency  increased after the first few washes.

My daughter "L" actually likes holding onto the Posh Pads when she is being nursed. She lifts them up and looks at them while she is eating, even she loves the cute print.

Blueberry Deluxe One Size Diaper Review and Giveaway

When my Blueberry arrived in the mail the first thing I noticed about them was the thickness of their waterproof outer layer, and the nice microterry inserts(not like normal terrycloth inserts). Their inserts are much better quality than some I have purchased, and really hold a ton of fluid! I really enjoy having One Size diapers. They fit my 13lb daughter wonderfully at this point. I am also a huge snap fan. This diaper has a very roomy pocket and is easy to stuff. 

I gave this review a different approach than some of my previous ones. Instead of taking a bunch of pictures of a brand new never worn diaper, I decided to instead wash/prep the diaper and use it multiple times before taking the first pictures. In my opinion this provides you all a more comprehensive look at what you would be getting in the long run opposed to what you are getting at the very first moment it arrives. I actually have my Blueberry at the top of my list for great nighttime diapers due to its extra absorbent inserts and its ability to keep moisture away from L's bottom. The snaps on this diaper hold very well. It seems to run average on the size chart, but a bit bulkier. I'm not sure how well it would fit a brand new baby.
I like the fact that you can customize absorbency levels and waist size and rise are very customizable. This diaper fits very nicely with one insert. I only use both inserts at night. I'm not sure that L's pants would fit over the diaper if it had both inserts in it during the daytime, it is a bit bulky with both inserts inside, but like I said before, I only use both at night and my Blueberry is a very well loved nighttime and daytime diaper. The dry time is quite fast for the diaper it dries in an equally comparable time frame as most of my other pockets. I wash diapers when we are down to about 6-10 changes left. My diapers always have time to hang dry and be stuffed when we wash on that schedule. Don't forget to only use cloth diaper safe detergents/soaps when washing diapers.

 Inside the diaper after 10+ uses and washes, no stains no pilling.

I love the wide waist snap area.

Leg gussets fit nicely, even on my skinny baby.

 L is a 13lb 25" 4 1/2 month old. She still wears the smallest setting on the Blueberry One Size Deluxe - Snaps w/ Microterry Inserts. You can see that it is a bit wide between the legs, but does not affect her mobility at all. I absolutely love this diaper at nighttime it offers near "bulletproof" protection with both inserts inside. All-in-all this is a Very nice pocket diaper that does exactly what it is made to do, keeps wetness in the insert and away from your baby's bottom. I highly recommend purchasing one for your child.
