Wonderful World of Wool Event: Day 4
About Sloomb/SustainablebabyishTM
[their site]
Before starting this event, I was pretty committed to trying to get every type of wool diapering option to compare. The only one I didn't own was a pair of longies. Sloomb was nice enough to sponsor a pair and another for giveaway!!!
I was really excited to try these out on my daughter. As I have mentioned in previous posts, we live in Alaska. It's important to find articles of clothing that are warm and comfortable. With wool being temperature regulating, she can wear these longies year round!
Sloomb ships the longies non-lanolized due to allergies your babe may have so you have to prep the longies before use. This is common with most wool products you buy online that are new [not made with up-cycled materials]. I used Eucalan No Rinse Wool Wash which can also be purchased from Sloomb's website.
It was easy to use and evenly lanolized my wool covers. Once the longies were lanolized, and had dried completely, they were ready for use. Just a warning though, wool takes a lot longer to dry than your average cloth diaper. Part of the washing process is to roll up the cover in a towel and squeeze excess water from it before laying flat to dry. It can be difficult to get most of water out of the cover because you can only squeeze the water out, never wring out the covers, it can warp them. After about a day or two the longies were ready to wear.
I can't stress enough, the importance of measuring your child before ordering. I measured "Turtle" before ordering knowing that its more important that the waist was going to fit and not so much the length. So I ordered her the Medium long. They fit her perfectly, and the length is fine when she's wearing shoes.
While wearing her new longies she was also wearing a fitted diaper I had made her. You can check out our fitteds on our website: Modified Momma Creations.
Turtle wore the diaper at different times of day, including overnight, with the same result. No leaks! These longies are near bulletproof!
After use I let them air dry before re-using. This allows the wool to 'clean itself'. Wool is naturally antibacterial and only needs to be washed once every few weeks depending on how often you use them.
I washed these longies twice in the time I've had them and they still look brand new. Because of the gentle way you have to wash them, it keep them looking new longer.
